Online mixing and mastering is the the future. Thanks to COVID more people write music at home, instead of record in a studio. It’s more important than ever to use a professional set of ears, to ensure your music is up to scratch. With better internet and file sharing platforms like Dropbox, You tracks can be mixed and mastered online.
A good mix can make a track. You’ve heard the stories of Billy Eillish and her brother Finneas making an album in their bedroom, at their parents house. Or Flume writing an album on his laptop, while flying on a plane.
What they don’t tell is that all these great albums and and songs, are then sent to a professional mix engineer, for mixing and mastering.
So you have written great track, don’t then hit that pitfall of thinking they have to mix it as well. Most people don’t realise, is that it takes a completely different set of skills to write or produce a track, then is does to mix it. Theoretically you can mix a track in the same program you wrote it, doesn’t mean you should.
Audio Mixing is difficult, and can take years to master. Especially when it comes to compression and equalisation, not to mention the use of effects.
Getting a professional to manage the final stage of the song writing process just makes sense. There’s massive benefits in getting another set of ears to bring out the best in your work. Especially if that set of ears experienced and well trained.
And a good mix engineer can turn a great track, into something killer.
I have over ten years of experience mixing on an Solid State Logic Duality (the worlds best mixing console), my refined hybrid workflow combines a classic analogue gear, with the world’s best digital mixing plug ins. My workflow is has all the benefits of the analogue and digital worlds combined. I sum mixes through the SSL Sigma and G Bus Compressor to give that classic analogue glue.
Thanks to the internet and file sharing services, I mix for clients anywhere in the world. Clients send files via Dropbox, I can mix them in my studio, and send the mixed song back for revision.
I can use other file sharing services Avid Cloud, Google Drive, WeTransfer etc..
